I don’t usually get involved in things as important as college football ranking and such, but I’ve been asked, so I’m happy to explain why I think the Committee is right in ranking Ohio State at the 4th position launching them into the first year of college football playoffs and Alabama January 1st @ 8:30pm.
My analysis isn’t really very complicated..the Committee consistently rewarded OSU over the past 5 weeks:
OSU severely beat Wisconsin (#13 at the time) and moved into the #4 slot.
Where the Committee lost their minds was putting TCU at #3 last week. Only 2 of TCU’s opponents were still ranked in week 15, a loss to Baylor and win over Kansas St. Mississippi has a better argument than TCU and Baylor to be #4 with losses only to Alabama and Ole Miss. For some reason the Committee was comfortable inflating TCU but waiting for OSU to prove themselves each week…which probably worked to motivate OSU to perform they way that had to in the Big 10 Championship.
OSU earned #4.
TCU & Baylor can’t make a strong enough argument.
Mississippi St are justifiably the most disappointed…certainly in themselves.
