We’ve talked about living at the intersection of Jesus and Real Life. In fact, Jesus is always there; the question is, “Do we acknowledge and invite him into real life?” As we discussed this past Easter Sunday, the point of Jesus’ actual bodily resurrection (as opposed to a “spiritual” resurrection or a metaphorical one) is that real life – new life – isn’t only a future hope, but a current reality. Jesus is re-creating us now! Jesus wants to show up now in our real lives!
One of my favorite intersections is the one at which those who “have been there and done that” cross paths with those who are “there now.” Whether it is health concerns, financial difficulties, tragedy, marriage, parenting, you name it. When someone cares enough to come along side to encourage and guide those who need care and direction, Jesus shows up.
One very clear place we see this happening is in our Kids Community! Did you know that we encourage EVERYONE in the church to spend a bit of time in the Sunday children’s classrooms?? It’s an easy gig since we have staff and others that do the heavy lifting (not that any of your babies are overweight). For many, your presence is super valuable because you’ve “been there and done that.” You know how to hang with, encourage, support and encourage young families. It warms those of us that have younger children to know you’ve hugged them, spoken with and encouraged them. Further, we appreciate your encouragement and direction to us.
So if you haven’t already, intersect with the children once a quarter and make Vista the multi-generational ministry we hope for it to be. We need 25 more folks without young kids (elementary age and younger) to help in the classrooms once each quarter. Don’t blow through this intersection … stop and smell the children. Yikes, scratch that…
