Org update: We are designating one-third of Chris Kelley’s attention to support the Worthington Site as we continue our search for a Community (Site) Pastor there. But before I explain that further, I wanted to remind you of this:
We believe God has called Vista Community Church to be a movement of communities at the intersection of Jesus and real life. We are one church in two locations sharing one budget, one board, and one brand. We also share some staff and support one another in practical ministry.* Vista also shares the burden of the ever-continuing “go” mandate of Jesus: to make disciples by advancing the Word of God, helping others live at the intersection of Jesus and real life…staying at the Gospel’s Edge…reaching into and gathering in new communities.
Let me encourage you to proactively speak and live as one church if/when God expands our borders.
If we live as isolated, independent community churches rather than one church, then when a new expression emerges, existing Sites disconnect from them because they may think, for example, “That’s ‘Hilliard’ and I’m at ‘Dublin,’” or “That’s ‘Powell’ and I’m at ‘Worthington.’” We must work hard at being one church.
The fact of the matter is that a future “Hilliard” site is currently made up of Dublin Site people and Worthington Site people…and Powell people, etc. Although you may not ultimately attend Vista in Hilliard or Marysville, as part of one body and one church you help carry the burden and experience the joy! It’s better to view New Site movements as part of the whole.
Back to Chris. Directing some of Chris’ time in support of Worthington strengthens Vista on the whole and also serves to provide valuable training and development for him and others from Hilliard during this season. Chris will provide administrative, ministry and communications support, leadership, as well as office connection to the Worthington leadership team (aka “Directorate” or “D” Team).
Thank you for your commitment to God and to being a movement of communities at the intersection of Jesus and real life. You’re doing it! Your missional heart is shining through in the simple expressions of faith you are exhibiting. Your commitment is helping us reach our vision of being a multiplying church of worshipful, relational, missional people. Ask Erika about the wonderfully rewarding risk she and few other moms took recently:
“I invited all my other mom friends…[they] brought their girls and I brought my girls and the best part is, we didn’t even talk to each other. We were too busy awkwardly trying to converse with non-English speaking moms from Nepal, Iraq, and Somalia. And we had an awesome time. Amazing.”
*In addition to budget, board and budget, we share equipping staff who ensure quality and unity in Production, Kids Community, Groups and Leadership Development across the Sites. We also share office/admin space & costs, global missions initiatives and a teaching team.
