For the next couple months on Sunday mornings, we’re going to be taking a look at a few chapters in the book of Luke. Luke, a doctor and a historian, went to great lengths and into great detail to record the life and message of Jesus so that we “may know the certainty of the things you have been taught” (Luke 1:4, NIV).
Luke also wrote the book of Acts which we have studied every Fall for the past seven years (access previous years here). A weekly study into the two books together could easily span two decades without failing to enlighten and challenge us in life.
So we’re going to dive into a small section starting in Chapter 10 at which point Jesus, “sent them…ahead of him.” Over the next seven weeks we’ll explore not only what it means to be Sent, but what it means to be Sent in advance of Jesus.
Jesus trains and explains to his disciples how to be compassionate, how to rest in him, how to pray, what to do with demons, to be humble, self-sacrificial, and of integrity…to name a few things.
We’ll also take the opportunity to explain in greater detail what it means that we are a MultiSite church and the sort of vision and momentum that God is creating with us in this regard. In some ways it’s always a bit of a mystery how God is shaping and directing the global Church and Vista to be specific, but we know he’s always up to something good.
It’s exciting and rewarding to be on this journey with you, but scripture also warns that it’s not a cake-walk, that there is an Opposition and that there is a cost in following Jesus. It’s a jungle out there, but God promises to always be with us and to lead us for the good of others and for his glory. Let’s go!
