Supporting Pastor Dan

By now most of you have met Pastor Dan or you’ve at least heard him speak. He is a man of God like very few I have ever met. His depth of character is as obvious as his delightful smile! You can read more about Dan here, if you didn’t happen to pick up the Bio we made available Sunday.

I’ve personally known Dan for nearly five years and with the exception of a few dollars here and there, we have allowed sufficient time for our relationship to develop and for our churches to “meet” one another. It is rarely good to make substantial financial contributions and obligations before building trust and mutual respect.

Having visited Kenya and Pastor Dan four times and now following his second visit to the states, we feel like the foundation for a partnership is firm. We anticipate directing a portion of our Missions Budget toward the church planting ministry of Restoration Churches lead by Pastor Dan and his three senior overseers. At present there are over 20 pastors leading 18 churches, and they are ready to plant two more ASAP.

Other than to provide you a summary of these thoughts, I also wanted to give you an avenue to give. I wouldn’t have likely gone down this path, but the response to Pastor Dan has been quite significant. Many of you have “signed up” to go with me on the next trip and some of you have asked if there are opportunities for additional financial gifts. One gentleman has already contributed $500…I was stunned. There are always miscellaneous expenses that crop up for these Kenyan Pastors as they strive to advance God’s Word on a shoestring budget. For example, pastors must walk to visit their congregations…no phones…no email…with a bike they can triple their efficiency. We’ve secured 12, they need 6 more. One church had their PA systems stolen. Stuff like that.

If you’re interested in traveling to Kenya let me me know. If you’d like to make a personal contribution just toss another check (memo’d Kenya) in the offering basket or give online.

These are exciting times! By the end of the year we may have partnered in the planting of a new church halfway around the globe!
