Historically referred to as Lent, we embark annually on the forty days preceding Easter with a simple agenda of preparation. During the 40 Days, we essentially prepare our hearts to deeply remember and celebrate the saving grace of Jesus which we celebrate on Easter Sunday. Although a year-round, lifelong pursuit, these six weeks represent an attitude of humility and repentance with respect to our sinfulness and separation from God. Apart from Jesus we are each inescapably trapped by our sin, and we ought never never forget the necessary forgiveness we have freely received.
So, through the 40 Days, we invite you to join us in an extra measure of heart-work. Add, develop or improve a spiritual discipline in your life. Maybe a new habit affording you an opportunity to experience God more honestly and deeply. Refer to the 40 Day Trifold we prepared (partially replicated to the right) which is full of 40 Day ideas, links and opportunities. Consider prayer, scripture, serving and reading.
I will be attempting to provide some online community and interaction throughout the 40 Days which you can join by subscribing to my blog (above) and by following me on Twitter (right). Join us every Tuesday morning at 6:30am for prayer at either of two locations, and finally, we are suggesting a book by Francis Chan that provides a simple yet Biblical look at the Holy Spirit – the counselor and comforter whom Jesus sent.
We’re not suggesting you do everything – just consider what simple action, step or initiative God might have for you and commit to it. You won’t regret it…
